Hey, all! I’m Allison – a fairly recent addition to Puerto Rico, or La Isla del Encanto to those of us on the inside. I traded the New York smog for the Caribbean breeze in early March, with the goal of launching the island’s first institutional venture capital fund under the auspices of Advent-Morro Equity Partners – one of the island’s top private equity firm since 1989, led by Cyril Meduna.
With the advent of the local tech industry (pun!) and establishment of early company accelerator programs, an exciting market opportunity materialized – namely, the ability to bridge the gap between the accelerators and more traditional growth equity funds and take advantage of the amazing deal flow and relative lack of competition on the island.
A partnership was born! While Cyril brings the institutional infrastructure and local market knowledge, I complement him with the tech investment experience, and together, we’re Morro Ventures.
The mission of Morro Ventures is to build a leading venture capital firm investing across the Spanish-speaking world, while leveraging the unique advantages of Puerto Rico as a platform for growth between U.S. and Latin American tech. We’re fairly geography and tech vertical agnostic, though focus on those companies that can benefits from operations or relationships on the island. Through those local activities, we hope to generate economic and job growth. Good island vibes for all!
I can’t tell you how exciting the local ecosystem has become and the growth I’ve witnessed in just the last 6 months. To the Caribbeon Valley and my new home, Puerto Rico!
